Firstly don’t buy one that looks obviously fake, it may be tempting to buy a cheap one but if it doesn’t look realistic and looks like a toy, the chances of it deterring burglars will be slim. A good quality dummy security camera will have a false cable connected to it and also be fitted by the supplier into a conduit, completing the authentic look of the dummy camera system. If you already have a real CCTV camera in place and you want to put a dummy camera system with it, then try and make sure that it matches to what is already there. Another thing to keep in mind is that in many places it is required by law to have a warning label that can be seen by people that warns of the presence of CCTV cameras. So if one puts up dummy cameras in place then a warning sign should be also put up. When you do, that should be enough to deter any would be perpetrator. Just don’t put a sign that reads” warning dummy CCTV cameras are watching you” - then the joke may turn out to be on you.
